Salutations MDTC Members and Friends,

Welcome to our central repository for the June 15, 2026 updates. By shifting our detailed lists and logistics from the email newsletter onto our website blog, we ensure our committee members have an easily accessible, permanent reference point that won't clutter an inbox.

Below you will find the complete logistical breakdowns for our high-priority municipal nominations and our upcoming July 4th parade operations.

Deep Dive: The Impact of Treasurer Erick Russell

When we knock on doors across Madison this summer, our conversations focus on steady, fiscally responsible governance. Connecticut State Treasurer Erick Russell is the blueprint for that success. Since his historic election, his office has delivered landmark structural victories that protect taxpayers and build equity:

  • Pension Reform: Rebuilding and transforming the state's pension investment frameworks, achieving top-tier performance while systematically shrinking the historic debt burdens left to local taxpayers.

  • CT Baby Bonds: Championing a first-of-its-kind national model that deposits dedicated funds for children born into low-income households, creating long-term, wealth-building opportunities for college, homeownership, or entrepreneurship right here in CT.

  • Corporate Accountability & Labor: Using the state's financial leverage to stand up to corporations that violate the public trust, fighting exploitative child labor practices, supporting union workers, and divesting state assets from private prisons.

  • Healthcare & Infrastructure: Efficiently financing statewide green energy assets, schools, roads, and bridges while safely utilizing private donations to reinforce localized access to reproductive and gender-affirming medical care.

To support his continued leadership and network with other Shoreline DTCs, consider joining us at the regional fundraiser in Lyme on Wednesday, June 24th from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Contributions can be made via this secure digital link.

Nominations Protocol: Open Town Board Seat (BOE)

True local oversight requires active participation. Following the well-deserved elevation of Seth Klaskin to Judge of Probate, we are expediting interviews for the Board of Education.

Any qualified applicant wishing to be considered for the BOE vacancy must submit their completed candidate questionnaire to nominations@madisonctdems.org no later than Monday, June 22, 2026, at 11:59 PM.

July 4th Independence Day Parade & Fireworks Logistical Plan

With Madison celebrating its historic 200th year of town incorporation, this year’s Independence Day Parade on Saturday, July 4th is set to be one of our biggest public actions. The Grand Marshal honors are dedicated to the Town of Madison itself, and the MDTC will be out in full force to display our vision for the town's next century.

  • Parade Kick-Off: 10:00 AM sharp.

    • Route: Proceeding west down Boston Post Road (Route 1) starting near Samson Rock Drive, cutting right through the New England town center, and concluding with a classic shoreline finish at the Surf Club.

  • MDTC Assembly & Staging: All marching members, volunteers, and banner carriers are instructed to meet at our designated formation area at Citizen’s Bank near Stop-n-Shop lot between 8:30 AM and 9:45 AM. Look for the MDTC banners and blue shirts.

  • Important Safety Note: Per the Madison Exchange Club parade regulations, the throwing of candy or items into the street is strictly prohibited to prevent children from running in front of moving vehicles. We will have alternative, secure ways to engage with the crowd along the sidewalks!

  • The Madison Bicentennial Committee is thrilled to announce the official musical lineup for the Rising Strawberry Moon Festival, taking place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Madison Surf Club. The festival, running from 1:00-7:00PM, will feature an incredible afternoon of live music, delicious offerings from local food trucks, family-friendly games, and more, including a headline performance by Madison’s own rising national star, Kaleb Cohen.

  • The Madison Fireworks Organization is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers who are devoted to bringing you an incredible Independence Day celebration. We appreciate the financial support from our community, guaranteeing “oohs” and “aahs” each year! Thursday, July 2, 2026 at the Surf Club, East, and West Wharf

The Guilford Peace Alliance is inviting shoreline DTC and RTC members to a Community Discussion with Immigration Attorney Glenn Formica In the Guilford Library Meeting Room Monday, June 15 6-8 pm Glenn will open with key questions: What are the lawful pathways for immigration to the United States? What does our deportation and removal system actually mean to individuals detained by ICE? An invitation to a conversation. Please be sure to let us know if you’re coming by emailing: epk13@me.com
